Are the official sources still wrong?

Edition 1 found that three of ten programmes had an official source that was wrong, stale or unreachable at the moment we checked it. That was not the finding we set out to make, so we now re-check those sources every month and publish what we find. Latest check: 25 August 2026.

What this is, and what it is not This is a record of what official pages say on the day we read them. It is not an accusation of bad faith. Public bodies update at their own pace and a stale page is usually just a stale page. But buyers commit six and seven figures on the strength of these documents, and nobody else appears to be checking them, so we do. Every check below is reproducible: the command or the URL is stated so you can run it yourself.

Mauritius: the file has not been touched since 2023

The Economic Development Board's guidelines for acquiring property at the USD 500,000 threshold still sit at the same URL Edition 1 examined. The document returns HTTP 200 and a Last-Modified date of 20 December 2023. The duty change took effect on 1 July 2026. The promotion agency's own guidance for foreign buyers has therefore not been revised at any point since the change, and by the date of this check that is nearly two months.

The limit of this check We are reporting the file's Last-Modified header, not a fresh reading of the fee figures inside the PDF. The header is the harder fact and it is the one anyone can reproduce in a second. A file unmodified since December 2023 cannot reflect a July 2026 change, which is the point, but we are not restating the internal figures from this month's check.

Latvia: the portal still lists a route parliament removed

On 20 August 2026 the Saeima adopted a new Immigration Law, 60 votes to 26, in which property is not among the grounds for a residence permit. Five days later the state legal portal's English text of the Immigration Law still lists immovable property as a ground for a temporary residence permit, at Section 23, paragraph one, clause 29, with associated employment rights at Section 9.

The page is candid about its own currency, and that candour is itself the finding: it states that the English translation is valid through 28 April 2026 and that amendments from 26 March and 23 April 2026 are not included. So the reader who goes to the official source in the country's own official English is told, today, that a closed route is open.

Qatar: recovered

At the Edition 1 freeze the Hukoomi service page for the real-estate owner residence permit returned an error, with a maintenance notice across the domain. It now returns a redirect rather than an error, so the outage has at least partly resolved. Edition 1's finding on Qatar never depended on that page: the 90-day presence requirement was confirmed from Cabinet Decision 28 of 2020 on the state legal portal and corroborated by the real estate regulator. That is exactly why we source from the instrument rather than the service page.

Why one page cannot carry the weight

Three in ten was never a claim about competence. It is a measurement of how much a single official page can be relied on, and the answer is: less than buyers assume. The practical consequence for anyone reading this is narrow and worth stating plainly. Do not treat a government promotion page as the rule. The rule lives in the instrument, and the instrument is usually published somewhere else, often less conveniently. Where the two disagree, we record the disagreement rather than resolving it in whichever direction reads better.

Edition 1's source findings rest on an adversarial verification pass completed 17 July 2026 over approximately 100 load-bearing cells, followed by freeze checks on 22 August 2026. This page records re-checks performed on 25 August 2026 by direct HTTP request to each source. Where a check establishes less than the underlying Edition 1 finding did, that is stated in place rather than glossed.
